history

The company’s routes trace back in the early 1900s

when its founder Evangelos P. Nomikos (1902-1985), after following his family tradition, commenced his shipowning activity in the 1920s. His father was Petros M. Nomikos (1865–1947) of Theran Steamship who managed to create a fleet of 14 steamers. According to maritime researchers, on the eve of the Second World War he was placed fourth in the ranks of Greek shipowning groups.

Evangelos P. Nomikos shipowning activity started by taking the risk to repair a cargo ship, which he renamed “Panaghiotis” and proved to be profitable during the World War II. After the end of the War, he was one of the few shipowners who managed to own Liberty cargo ships, bought from the American Government with the guarantee of the Greek state. Evangelos Nomikos was quickly in the position to order newbuilding vessels in the United Kingdom and was among of the few to foresee that Japan would become the center of shipbuilding. Between 1953 and 1964 he implemented a major investment program in newbuildings, taking delivery of numerous vessels -bulkers and tankers- from Japanese yards. By the mid-seventies, Evangelos P. Nomikos had established extended representations in Piraeus, London, Monaco and New York.

Besides his shipowning activity, Evangelos contributed a great deal to his homeland, the island of Santorini, including the establishment of the “Loula & Evangelos Nomikos Foundation” and the creation and installation of the Cable Car.

From Evangelos P. Nomikos to his daughter and then granddaughter, the family legacy is being continued amid the years until today, having endowed us with experience through the management of o total of around 60 vessels.
